March 2023 is the ideal time to target the highly sought after 16-34 men audience. Some big action and super-hero movies featuring big-name stars are entering the cinema mix – genres that are particularly strong for this audience.

78% of young men are cinema-goers, and are 61% more likely to be heavy cinemagoers vs the average UK adult (TGI GB 2022). They are eager to see the latest blockbuster films on their opening weekend (Film Monitor Data 2022), in order to join in the conversation with their peers and online. February and March this year is packed full of films that will be perfect for this audience, with the four films below forecast to deliver a huge 36 16-34 male TVRs in total.

Here are some of our top picks to target 16-34 male cinema-goers in March 2023:

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania

  • Release Date: 17 February 2023

  • Est. DCM admissions: 2.5m

Although this film releases mid-February, it is set to be a hit throughout March 2023, as it officially kicks off phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a firm favourite with 16-34 male audiences.

Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and The Wasp. They find themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that pushes them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible.

Director Peyton Reed not only directed the first two Ant-Man films, but also two episodes of The Mandalorian TV series, which was watched by over one million households on Disney+.

Creed III

Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan makes his directorial debut and returning in the role of Adonis Creed in Creed III, the third instalment of the hit franchise.

Adonis Creed has been thriving in both his career and family life, but when a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy resurfaces, the face-off is more than just a fight.

Since Creed II’s release in 2018, the rise of the YouTuber amateur boxing phenomenon has seen huge popularity with young male viewers, with millions tuning in live to watch their favourite internet personalities fight. This is a positive indicator of the audience that Creed III, a film all about boxing, will attract when hitting the UK box office in March 2023.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Shazam! Fury Of The Gods continues the story of teenage Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word "Shazam!" is transformed into his adult superhero alter ego, Shazam.

The previous Shazam! film, also directed by David F. Sandberg, launched with £4.1m in its first weekend at the UK box office in 2019, which sets the sequel up to perform well in 2023.

John Wick: Chapter 4

One of the most popular men in the world, Keanu Reeves is back as former-hitman John Wick in the fourth instalment of the smash-hit film franchise.

With the price on his head ever increasing, Wick takes his fight against the High Table global as he seeks out the most powerful players in the underworld, from New York to Paris to Osaka to Berlin.

The first John Wick film opened with £540k in 2015, from which John Wick: Chapter 2 saw significant uplift, opening with £2.2m in 2017. In 2019, John Wick: Chapter 3 achieved £3.6m in its debut weekend at the UK box office. With significant uplift for each new John Wick film released, we’re very excited for what Chapter 4 will achieve next March.
