The Weekend Round-up

Tenet topped the box office for the eighth successive weekend, the first film to achieve such a feat since Avatar in 2009-10. Christopher Nolan’s brain-teasing spectacular added £187k, a drop of 37% from last weekend. That takes its total to £16.9m and it has now overtaken Little Women (£16.9m) to become the third biggest film of 2020.

Event cinema climbed back into the top five, with Michael Ball & Alfie Boe: Back Together taking second spot. This is a recording of the duo’s final show of their UK tour at the O2 Arena. It only played on Saturday and Sunday and topped the box office on both occasions, totalling £170k. Had it played on Friday too it would have topped the weekend chart.

Saint Maud opened in second last week and fell to third this week, adding £132K, a drop of 28% from last week. That takes its total to £520k and with Halloween still 12 days away, it will be hoping to hold up well over the next couple of weeks.  After We Collided again came in fourth adding £107k, a drop of 45% from last weekend. That takes its total to £3.8m. It’s still the second biggest film post-lockdown, grossing almost £1.5m more than the third biggest film, Onward. Cats & Dogs: Paws Unite rounded out the top five, adding £107k for a new total of £871k.

Outside of the top five, the re-release of Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy comedy Hocus Pocus increased on last weekend’s total by 106% to £42k in seventh. You’d expect it to have a solid half term week too. Documentary I Am Greta, about Greta Thunberg was the only other new entry in the top 15, opening in eighth with £30k from one night of performances on Sunday.

The top 15 totalled £986k.
