The DCM FFL heats up in the wake of Oscar nomination announcements

Last week, Hollywood and the world of film held their collective breath as The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, better known as simply, The Academy, announced the nominees for 86th Academy Awards, affectionately referred to as The Oscars.

On the same day, Digital Cinema Media (DCM), launched its Fantasy Film League (FFL), pitting agency against agency, testing their film nous and garnering opinions on how the awards will play out in March, all for the chance to win a fabulous red carpet style prize. Gravity and American Hustle lead the nominations with 10 apiece. These movies will be going head to head in categories including Best Director and Best Picture.

The Wolf of Wall Street, the current number one in the UK Box Office, garnered a very respectable five nominations. Leading man, Leonardo DiCaprio, who was nominated for The Best Actor award, was quoted as saying: “"I am deeply humbled by this honor [sic] and even happier to share today with Marty, Jonah, Terry as well as this entire cast and crew. 'The Wolf of Wall Street' has been a passion project of mine, and I found the role to be one of the most challenging and rewarding of my career. Congratulations to all of my fellow nominees and thank you to the Academy for this extraordinary recognition."

Matthew McConaughey, who also received a nomination for Best Actor, as a result of his role in The Dallas Buyers Club, reacted to the news by saying: “I am honored [sic] and grateful for this nomination. I love working in an industry and craft that inspires me daily and allows me to tell stories that translate humanities and move people. I share this with the entire 'Dallas Buyers Club' family of filmmakers, cast, and crew -- and the real-life Ron Woodroofs [sic] and Rayons [sic] who continue to fight and live with dignity. Thank you.”
