Digital Cinema Media (DCM), the market leader in UK cinema advertising, has welcomed The Olympic Studios to its Independent Exhibitor portfolio. The new partnership coincides with The Olympic Studios’ stunning re-opening on 18 October 2013.
The addition of The Olympic Studios to DCM’s estate strengthens DCM’s London independent cinema offer which is a huge draw to upmarket and discerning audiences in London, showing art-house films as well as big budget Hollywood hits.
Other key independent cinemas in DCM’s London portfolio include Picturehouse Cinemas, The Aubin in Shoreditch, The Electric Cinema in Portobello Road, The Riverside Studios in Hammersmith and The Phoenix in East Finchley.
The century old cinema was converted to The Olympic Sound Studios in 1966 and will re-open as a digital cinema on 18 October. Upon opening, The Olympic Studios will be the only independent cinema in the UK to be fully equipped with Dolby Atmos; a new audio platform for cinema that revolutionises the experience of sound in entertainment by delivering audiences a more natural sound field. Dolby Atmos allows audiences to experience the most realistic cinema sound experience yet, making the cinema experience more engaging and immersive than ever before.
Steven Davis, Head of Exhibition at Digital Cinema Media, said: “We're very much looking forward to working in partnership with The Olympic Studios. This luxury independent digital cinema makes a fantastic addition to our estate and strengthens our Independent portfolio. As someone who has recently experienced Atmos, I’m also really excited about the potential this offers our advertisers.”
The Olympic Studios owner, Stephen Burdge, said: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with DCM and are excited to be joining its Independent Exhibitor portfolio in time for our grand reopening this month. We look forward to working with DCM to connect brands with our audiences in our luxurious, upmarket setting.”
The cinema will host two screens showing three screenings per day, every day of the week. Screen 1, a 120-seat luxury cinema, will show a wide variety of the latest releases from critically acclaimed features to the latest blockbusters. Weekends will screen cast & crew Q&As, film previews and alternative content, with Saturday mornings and school holidays dedicated to children’s showings. The second 65-seat cinema will screen a broader, more diverse repertoire of films alongside documentaries, world cinema and director retrospectives.
The Olympic building will also include a members’ club, dining room and café and a smaller recording studio. Together with its screens, the Studios are a major new addition to London's entertainment scene.
