The Town Tipped For Oscar Nomination

The Town, directed by and starring Ben Affleck, opened to a fantastic $23.8m easily taking the weekend number one spot at the US Box Office. With commentators already talking about Oscar nominations for the film, The Town has been described by magazine Total Film, as "a triumph".

The town is Charleston. A blue-collar neighbourhood of US city Boston, where kids grow up skilled in their parents trades: carjacking, kidnapping and armed robbery. Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) is desperate to leave his life of crime and so the drama unfolds.

In three days it has already out-grossed the entire runs of Ben Affleck's previous films Gone Baby Gone and Pride & Glory. Exit polls indicated the audience was 55% male and 75% over 25s.
