The cinema industry gathered last week to celebrate excellence in film distribution, exhibition, marketing, publicity and brand partnerships in the UK market at the 2015 Screen Awards.

The winners were announced in front of over 500 guests at The Brewery in London, with Edith Bowman hosting the event for the fourth year.

Odeon Dorchester was named cinema of the year (25 screens or over) while the Glasgow Film Theatre was crowned cinema of the year (24 screens or under) – with a highly commended for London’s Genesis Cinema.

The judges highlighted Glasgow Film Theatre’s (GFT) ‘exceptional audience development to all sectors of community’. As well as hosting live satellite events, in-person appearances and partaking in nationwide seasons such as the BFI’s Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder with an immersive Escape From New York treasure hunt, GFT again hosted Glasgow Film Festival, where attendance rose 7% to more than 40,000 admissions. It also introduced an audience award, won by Tom Browne’s Radiator, which went on to secure a deal for UK distribution. With screenings of 663 films from 43 countries, this year admissions rose 8.3% to more than 190,000.

For the third year in a row, Digital Cinema Media (DCM) sponsored the ‘Brand Partnership of the Year’ category, recognising top brands that have aligned themselves with film to achieve outstanding partnerships. This year, the DCM ‘Brand Partnership of the Year’ category went to Minions and Green Giant, which was handled by Brand Culture. The award was presented by DCM’s Exhibition Director, Steve Davis.

Screen International Editor Matt Mueller said: “Screen is delighted that the industry continues to embrace these awards, which are now in their sixth year.

“I’m thrilled that our expert panel of judges have recognized such a worthy and impressive group of winners – from across the industry spectrum, major studios to sole operators.

“All of our nominees and winners should be praised for their outstanding work in connecting films to audiences right across the UK.”
