Not far behind this was The World’s End, which racked up an impressive debut of £2.1m. Messrs Pegg and Frost last collaborated on Paul back in 2011, which debuted with £3.1m. The World’s End may not have reached this giddying height on its opening weekend but expect steady growth for this movie over the coming weeks.

To date, Despicable Me 2 has earned $276.2 million, which makes it the eighth-highest-grossing animated movie ever, and the top one since Toy Story 3 in 2010.
