UK CINEMA ADMISSIONS HIT HIGHEST LEVEL SINCE 1970

Last year UK cinemas hit the highest level of admissions since 1970, achieving a figure of 177,001,481, as a combination of homegrown hits and Hollywood blockbusters kept cinemas packed. This is an increase of 3.7% on 2017, and just ahead of 1971’s top figure of 176m.

The top 10 films at the UK box office last year included Avengers: Infinity War, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody and The Greatest Showman.

Cinemagoing remains as popular as ever with the UK public and 2019 is set to be even bigger, with a huge number of record-breaking releases ahead., including titles such as Avengers: EndgameStar Wars Episode IXToy Story 4, It: Chapter Two and Rocketman.

”These fantastic figures for 2018 confirm that the UK cinema sector remains in extraordinary health. The UK public has responded with overwhelming enthusiasm both to the breadth of the film slate and the quality and range of different cinema offers delivered by UKCA members across the country,” commented UKCA head Phil Clapp.
