There is a natural synergy between the escapism experienced in both video games and film at the cinema . That probably explains the influx of video game to film conversions over the last few years.
The recent trend is illustrated by TGI research showing that 85% of 15-34 year old games consoles users are cinemagoers.* Accordingly, there is a clear link between gamers and film fans.
Previous conversions have proved to be a huge success with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time earning a whopping $335,154,643 worldwide and Tomb Raider taking $47,735,743 in its opening weekend worldwide!
This pattern looks to increase over the coming years with giant video-game-to-film conversions already confirmed. Targeting male audiences, Silent Hill: Revelation is looking to hit the big screens in 3D in 2012 as is Resident Evil: Retribution. There are even talks of a Call of Duty and Angry Birds film release!
The below shiny infographic, created by IGN, stylishly illustrates Video Game Films by Numbers.
